Five Mental Health Apps to Help You Stay Healthy on the Go

Mental health is one of the most commonly overlooked parts of our overall health. Not only do we tend to ignore it, but culturally we can find ourselves mired in the requests of those around us to “get over it” or “pull yourself up by your bootstraps,” when mental health – like all health – is a process to get right. It is often, as well, something where “right” can mean different things to everyone. While speaking with a professional should always be an option, there are tools you can use to help you track your mental health and possibly improve it. Here are five mental health apps you can try right now.

Moodfit
If you’re looking for a free app to not only track your moods but provide you with ways to work on negative emotions, Moodfit is right for you. Like most apps, there are reminders and trackers, and Moodfit’s questionnaire is designed to help you get a good look at any symptoms you have. Tracking your moods can help you identify trends, though you should be careful not to use any apps to self-diagnose, and instead speak with a mental health professional.

Sanvello
Sanvello is an app that is loaded with cognitive behavioral therapy exercises that are designed to help you work on your depression and anxiety. There is a premium version in addition to the free version, so beware that there will be some limits for the free version. The app allows you to track your mood and asks you questions to get down to the nitty-gritty of how you feel.

BetterHelp
Online therapy is the main point of BetterHelp, which is why it is a pricier option than others. It provides access to therapists via a subscription cost, though there is no consideration made for managing medications or free trials. That said, if you are ready for therapy, you can sign up and have access to trained and accredited therapists.

Calm
Calm does provide a free trial, but there is a membership fee. It contains meditation audio classes to help you relax, sleep better and be more mindful. It is for beginners and is a great tool to guide you through mindfulness if you’re not used to it.

Happify
Happify uses games to help you boost your mood. There is a free limited version, but even that allows you to take a closer look at your emotions and approach them in a fun way, rather than a stressful one.

Summary
Apps are usually a supplement or good tools to help you accomplish what you and a therapist have set up for your best mental health. Speaking with a professional is nothing more than doing the right thing for yourself, should you be in need. Any stigmas against mental health or seeking mental health do not have anyone’s best interests in mind – you should take care of yourself in the best way possible, to give yourself the best chance of feeling the best you can.
