The initial assessment includes lab work, physical testing, and consultations with each of our expert staff members to understand potential underlying health issues and assess each client’s individual metabolic and exercise capacity. After the evaluation, clients receive a personalized program comprised of nutrition, fitness, and lifestyle recommendations implemented with monthly consultations and check-ins as well as group support and continuing education.


Dr. Albert Takem developed his medical weight loss program as a result of his personal experience with weight gain & loss maintenance paired with his professional experience helping his patients manage the consequences of excess weight. Dr. Takem founded Maryland Primary Care and Wellness to help patients with weight management through a combination of best practices from medicine, nutrition, and exercise - an approach that is unavailable through both the current healthcare system and private weight loss companies.


Medications

Here are our most commonly prescribed medications:

1. Orlistat [Xenical, Alli] is a gastrointestinal and pancreatic lipase inhibitor that induces weight loss by inhibiting your body from absorbing fat in your meals. You should take this medicine. A meal containing fats are up to 1 hour after. 2. Phentermine is an appetite suppressant that is designed to aid weight loss in addition to diet and exercise. It is intended for patients with a body mass index equal to or greater than 30. People with a body mass index equal to or greater than 27 will have further risk factors like diabetes, high cholesterol or high blood pressure can also take his medication.

3. Phendimetrazine: It is also an appetite suppressant that can also be used for weight management in addition to healthy diet and exercise.

4. Glucagon like peptide agonists: This is a class of medications that came to the market initially for the treatment of diabetes. They have shown promote weight loss in patients with or without type 2 diabetes.

-Liraglutide [Saxenda]: Indicated for chronic weight management in addition to diet and exercise in adults with body mass index to: Greater than 30 or adult with a body mass index equal to greater than 27 to have at least 1 weight related condition and high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes or high cholesterol.

Semaglutide [Wegovy]: Indicated for chronic weight management in addition to diet and exercise for adults with a BMI of equal to or greater than 30 or equal to greater than 27 with high blood pressure, diabetes or high cholesterol 5. Contrave: This is a combination of 2 medications, bupropion and naltrexone which reduced appetite and increased energy expenditure thus leading to weight loss.
